Sundowns Score Epic 10th PSL Win
Mamelodi Sundowns proved that they’re not the simplest team in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) to play against after beating Chippa United 2-1 at Loftus Versveld on Tuesday evening, 10 January.
Fourteen minutes into the game, the Brazilians broke the deadlock with a header from midfielder Teboho Mokoena.
Despite Chippa’s strong efforts to defend themselves against Sundowns’ offence, the hosts proved their pluck once again in the 67th minute as Peter Shalulile intercepted a cross from Sifiso Ngobeni and turned it into a pinpoint header into the back of the net.
Although Morgan Mammila’s men managed to save some face with a goal in stoppage time, Sundowns ultimately emerged victorious, making it their 10th PSL win in a row – the first time they have accomplished this feat since 2014.
The Brazilians continue their reign at the top of the PSL rankings with 40 points, while Chippa occupy ninth place with 19 points.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ next challengers are SuperSport United, and they will meet next Monday, 16 January at Loftus Versveld – will the former gain their 11th victory, or will the latter give them their first loss of the season?
