Tems Features in Tiny Desk Concert
Singer Tems has appeared in NPR’s coveted Tiny Desk Concert ahead of her upcoming debut album release.
NPR shared the video of the 28-year-old Nigerian record producer’s live performance in their studio yesterday, Monday 3 June. She was selected as one of their artists for Black Music Month.
Tems, who is privately known as Temilade Openiyi, performed songs from her forthcoming LP, “Born In The Wild” alongside a live band. This is Openiyi’s second appearance on Tiny Desk, the first one taking place in 2021 in Lagos, Nigeria, as part of the organisation’s home concerts initiative during the coronavirus.
Openiyi performed two unreleased songs from “Born In The Wild”: a gentle R&B song titled “Unfortunate” and another called “Forever,” with a more intricate sound. The 20-minute video has already been viewed nearly half a million times.
The singer’s long-awaited 18-track album will be officially released on Friday, 7 June, featuring guest appearances from Grammy-nominated Nigerian superstar, Asake, and American rapper, J Cole.
