Thembinkosi Lorch Joins Wydad AC on Loan
Mamelodi Sundowns player, Thembinkosi Lorch, has joined Moroccan side, Wydad AC, for the rest of the 2024/25 season.
Since making the move to Sundowns in January 2024, Lorch has only scored seven goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, having been hampered by niggling injuries.
On Sunday, 2 February, Wydad confirmed that the 31-year-old midfielder would be joining them on loan, reuniting with coach Rulani Mokwena, who previously managed the Brazilians.
“Lorch Thembinkos [sic] is now part of the family,” the top-flight Moroccan club’s Twitter/X account announced, accompanied by a video of Lorch wearing Wydad’s colours.
Sundowns head coach, Miguel Cardoso, said that Lorch was “not happy” at the Premier Soccer League club, hence the decision to loan him out to the Botola Pro 1 outfit.
“It’s important that the players must be happy. We cannot sustain players that are not in the environment where they feel they can perform,” Cardoso explained following their match against Golden Arrows on Sunday.
“Sometimes, it’s very important to give them the air,” he continued. “They need to breathe, so that they can express themselves and also have the game time because they need to play. Lorch is not a young player [anymore] and in the last few years, he hasn’t played that much. So, it was important to let him go.”
