Tina Turner, 83, Passes Away
Simply one of the best in the music industry, Tina Turner, has died at the age of 83.
On Wednesday, 24 May, the news of Turner’s death was posted on her Instagram account alongside a black-and-white photo of her.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tina Turner,” the caption reads. “With her music and her boundless passion for life, she enchanted millions of fans around the world and inspired the stars of tomorrow. Today, we say goodbye to a dear friend who leaves us all her greatest work: her music.
“All our heartfelt compassion goes out to her family. Tina, we will miss you dearly.”
She reportedly died at her home in Kusnacht, Switzerland, following years of multiple medical issues.
Born Anna Mae Bullock in Tennessee in 1939, she started her singing career in 1957 as a back-up vocalist for Kings of Rhythm, a musical group fronted by her future husband Ike Turner, who changed her name to Tina.
The couple would later form a successful double act until their divorce in 1978 due to Ike’s controlling, abusive behaviour. Two years later, Turner would find success as a solo artist with hit songs such as “What’s Love Got to Do with It”, “Private Dancer” and “The Best” – she won 12 total Grammy Awards throughout her career.
Turner is survived by her second husband, German music executive Erwin Bach.
