Tottenham’s Troubles: From the Pitch to the Boardroom

Tottenham Hotspur are enduring a torrid season, with recent results amplifying frustrations both on and off the pitch.

A 2-1 loss to Leicester City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, ended the visitors’ seven-game losing streak on Sunday, 26 January, but further exacerbated the growing frustrations for the hosts.

The defeat marked the Lillywhites’ seventh English Premier League (EPL) match without a win, highlighting the glaring issues in defence and squad depth. Spurs are currently languishing in 15th place on the EPL table, just eight points above the relegation zone.

Manager Ange Postecoglou – initially hailed for his attacking style – faces criticism for sticking rigidly to high-intensity tactics despite an injury crisis, with key players like James Maddison and Cristian Romero remaining sidelined.

However, much of the anger is directed at long-time chairman Daniel Levy. Despite overseeing the construction of a world-class stadium and training ground, fans have accused him of prioritising infrastructure over building a competitive squad. As a result, protests have intensified, with banners and chants calling for his resignation.

Postecoglou has repeatedly requested reinforcements, but only one low-impact signing has been made during the January transfer window.

While the club remains in contention for cup competitions, fans are losing faith in leadership, with many seeing Levy as the common denominator in decades of underachievement.

For Spurs, time is running out to salvage their season – and their reputation.
