Trevor Noah Sues New York Hospital, Doctor

Trevor Noah has filed legal papers against a doctor and a hospital in New York City, New York State over allegations of malpractice.

The 37-year-old comedian launched the lawsuit – which is being handled by Justin Blitz of Schulman Blitz LLP – on 29 November at the New York County Supreme Court against Dr. Riley J. Williams III and the Hospital of Special Surgery (HSS).

The case claims that Noah received an incorrect diagnosis of his illness and condition, which resulted in him being referred to a specialist who lacked the appropriate skills and training to medically treat him; the claim includes accusations of negligent examinations and subsequent surgery.

The Emmy award winner also alleges that the negligence from Doctor Williams III and HSS between August and December last year caused him to “sustain permanent, severe and grievous injuries” and ultimately “suffered loss of enjoyment of life”. The nature of the illness and the type of surgery were not disclosed.

A HSS representative has stated that the lawsuit is “meritless”.
