Tuchel Plays Down Rudiger-Arrizabalaga Fight
Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, says that neither Antonio Rudiger nor Kepa Arrizabalaga will be punished after they got into a physical altercation on Sunday, 4 April.
The German defender and the Spanish goalkeeper were partaking in a training session at the Blues’ Cobham Training Centre in Stoke d’Abernon, England, when the scrap took place.
Per reports, Rudiger’s late tackle on Arrizabalaga during a training match resulted in their pushing and shoving each other, forcing their team-mates to separate them. Despite apologising for the incident minutes later, Rudiger was sent home early.
Speaking to a media outlet on Tuesday, 6 April, Tuchel explained that the bust-up is all in the past now.
He said: “They are all competitors and want to win training matches. We needed to interfere in the situation, so that was serious. But the way the guys handled the situation, that was impressive, and showed a lot of courage.”
Tuchel added: “That showed me that they have very good character.”
Rudiger and Arrizabalaga will both participate in Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League match against FC Porto tonight, Wednesday 7 April.
