UEFA Dispels Fears of West Ham Fan Ban
UEFA will not be turning away West Ham fans from the stadium when they take on Greek outfit, Olympiacos FC, in one month’s time.
Last Friday, 1 September, the Europa League group stage took place: in Group A, West Ham were drawn alongside Olympiacos, as well as with Germany’s SC Freiburg and Serbia’s FK TSC Backa Topola.
On 26 October, the Hammers and Olympiacos are scheduled to clash at Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Attica, Greece.
However, rumours began circulating that supporters of visiting clubs would be banned from attending Europa League matches in Greece after a violent brawl between fans of AEK Athens and Croatian club, Dinamo Zagreb, resulted in the death of a Greek supporter on 7 August.
Fortunately, UEFA has said that Hammers fans will not be turned away from the match venue.
“The match is planned to go ahead as scheduled with the attendance of visiting supporters,” they confirmed to a West Ham fansite on Monday, 4 September.
