Veteran Actor James Handy Stabbed to Death
Veteran American character actor James Handy, 81, has died after being stabbed outside his Los Angeles residence on Wednesday morning, 3 June.
Police discovered the New York-born performer unconscious with multiple chest wounds in his Tarzana front garden. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
Michael Gledhill, the 44-year-old son of Handy’s girlfriend, was arrested at the scene after dialling 911 to confess. Gledhill, who lived at the property with his mother, allegedly told emergency services: “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
He subsequently surrendered to arriving officers and was charged with murder, with bail set at $2 million. Authorities confirmed the tragedy was an isolated domestic incident.
Handy enjoyed a prolific six-decade career, frequently appearing in prominent television crime dramas like “NYPD Blue” and “Cold Case”. His notable film credits included “Jumanji” and his final role as a bartender in 2022’s |Top Gun: Maverick”.
Following the news, tributes poured in from the entertainment industry. Don Winslow described Handy as a “terrific actor”.
His talent agent, Pam Ellis-Evenas, stated: “I could not have asked for a more talented, humble or gracious client and friend than James Handy.”
