Victoria’s Secret: Priyanka Chopra, Megan Rapinoe Join Rebrand
Victoria’s Secret is undergoing a rebrand, and they’ve hired a smorgasbord of starpower to help them.
The lingerie brand is best known for their lavish annual fashion show, which saw “Angels” – models who were contracted to the company – modelling the latest products.
However, combined with declining sales, alleged harassment, and criticism about objectification and sizeism, the show was permanently cancelled in 2019, thus marking its 24-year run.
On Wednesday, 16 June, Victoria’s Secret announced their plans to rebrand themselves by launching two initiatives: The VS Collective and The Victoria’s Secret Global Fund for Women’s Cancers.
Described as “an ever-growing group of accomplished women who share a common passion to drive positive change”, the Collective features the likes of soccer star Megan Rapinoe, transgender model Valentina Sampaio, and actress Priyanka Chopra among others.
Acting as spokespeople rather than models, these women will appear on an upcoming podcast and in other marketing materials to inspire change, inclusivity and positivity.
Through the Global Fund, per Wednesday’s press release, the brand will donate “at least $5 million annually to examine and address racial and gender inequities, and unlock new innovations that improve cancer outcomes for all women.”
It’s a dramatic step for the ailing brand, but surely one that will leave a positive impact for years to come.
