Wayne Sandilands Joins Maritzburg United

Wayne Sandilands is coming out of retirement to lend his skills as a goalkeeper coach for his old club’s rivals.

Two months ago, it was reported that the 39-year-old shot stopper, who had been part of Orlando Pirates since 2017, was listed as the club’s new goalkeeper coach during the DStv Diski Challenge as he wound down his playing career.

Now, however, reports say that Sandilands has signed up officially for their rivals, Maritzburg United, in the same capacity.

Sandilands will be working with Fadlu Davids, who previously coached the Bucs and also officially joined Maritzburg as head coach on Monday, 14 November.

These appointments come soon after the sacking of goalkeeper coach Simon Gopane and head coach John Maduka, due to a string of poor on-pitch performances that have left Maritzburg in the relegation zone.
