Wednesday Gaming – XDefiant Shutdown, GTA Online, PS5 and MORE!

– Ubisoft has officially announced that it will discontinue its free-to-play first-person shooter game, “XDefiant”, due to being unable to “attract and retain enough players in the long run.” All new purchases and registrations will cease immediately, while servers will remain active until 3 June 2025.

– As part of the game’s shutdown, Ubisoft intends to close its production studios in San Francisco and Osaka, while scaling back operations at its Sydney site, resulting in up to 277 employees losing their jobs. Approximately half of the “XDefiant” team will be reassigned to different roles within the company.

– A content update, dubbed “Agents of Sabotage”, is coming to “GTA Online” next Tuesday, 10 December. Per the update’s description, it follows former FIB operative Jodi Marshall, now a rogue agent, who holds a grudge against her old handlers and exploits Bureau files for personal gain.

– Hidetaka Miyazaki, who directed “Elden Ring”, says that there are currently no plans for developing a sequel to the game.

– Reports are mounting that Sony is developing a new handheld gaming console, with multiple sources supporting the claim of an upcoming portable device. Additionally, they suggest that the company may already have a prototype ready for it.
