What’s Going On with Ranga Chivaviro’s Contract?

Marumo Gallants star Ranga Chivaviro looks set to be involved in a contract dispute with the club’s chairman, Abram Sello.

Chivaviro has proven to be Gallants’ most valuable player by scoring 17 goals across all competitions this season. At 30-years-old and with his contract initially set to expire in June, he was in a prime spot to field offers from both local and continental clubs.

“It shows that a lot of people are watching and it shows that you are doing good things for them to recognise,” he said at the team awards evening last Sunday, 21 May, soon after Gallants were relegated from the Premier Soccer League.

However, Sello revealed at the same event that there is a one-year option in Chivaviro’s contract that, when activated, will keep him at Gallants for another season.

“At the moment, he is still tied to the club,” he said. “[The contract] was a one-year, plus an option. The main thing is that we will talk with him … The option is triggered.”

Herve Tra Bi, Chivaviro’s manager, says that he and his client were unaware of this option.

“Maybe [Sello] spoke about it verbally, but he knows what the right thing to do is,” Tra Bi commented. “The contract is not in the mouth. It’s about discussion, it’s about the documents. But the player and I are calm and we will hear from him.”
