Zakes Bantwini to Represent SA at the Grammys
Local talent Zakes Bantwini is in the United States of America, rubbing shoulders with some of the biggest names in the international music industry ahead of the upcoming 65th Grammy Awards.
The 42-year-old record producer has been nominated alongside singer Nomcebo Zikode and flautist Wouter Kellerman in the “Best Global Music Performance” category for their collaboration on the recently released single, “Bayethe”.
The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday evening, 5 February, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, and aired live. South African comedian Trevor Noah will be on hand to host the glitzy events.
Alongside the Mzansi stars, viewers will see Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny; Hip Hop Legend Kendrick Lamar; pop icons Lizzo and Beyoncé; and celebrity producer DJ Khaled amongst others.
As part of the festivities leading up to the ceremony, Bantwini joined a panel of industry experts on Tuesday, 31 January, to discuss the latest global music developments and news.
Bantwini is confident that “Bayethe” is a winner, telling a local publication that it was created for the Grammys, before adding: “I’m very optimistic that we will come back with [the award], I don’t know why I have such a positive vibe over it. Somehow I’m content.”
