England Secure First Nations League Victory Against Czechs

England secured their first UEFA Nations League victory, overcoming a ten-man Czech Republic 2-0 in Prague on Tuesday, 29 September, following an initial defeat to Spain.

The hosts created early chances through Pavel Sulc, but the momentum shifted dramatically when Sulc received a red card after twenty-five minutes for a high challenge on Elliot Anderson.

England capitalised early in the second half when Anthony Gordon headed home a superb cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Barcelona winger lauded his team-mate’s vision afterwards: “I make that run time and time again and only a certain type of player has got the technique, ability and bravery to make the mistake playing that pass.”

Captain Harry Kane later sealed the win, sweeping in his eighty-seventh international goal after the Czech defense failed to clear a loose ball.

Reflecting on his team’s performance, head coach Thomas Tuchel stated: “We played very professionally in the second half. We stepped up, we needed to be a bit more dynamic and put a bit more urgency into our play.”

The victory moves England second in Group A3 ahead of their trip to face Croatia on Saturday, 3 October.
