Maresca: Haaland “100%” Ready for Aston Villa
Manchester City boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Erling Haaland is “100 per cent” fit for their English Premier League (EPL) clash against Aston Villa at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, this Saturday, 24 October.
Haaland was rested during City’s midweek Champions League victory over AEK Athens as a precaution following a minor knock. Maresca confirmed the Norwegian international will lead the attack as the EPL table leaders look to extend their perfect domestic record of seven consecutive wins.
While the 26-year-old star striker’s return provides a major boost, City face late fitness tests for midfield trio Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly. Meanwhile, attacker Antoine Semenyo remains sidelined long-term after suffering a severe knee injury that is expected to keep him out for eight weeks.
Despite the injury concerns in midfield, City sit three points clear at the top of the table. However, Maresca remains cautious ahead of the matchday lunchtime kickoff, praising Aston Villa manager Unai Emery and expecting a stern test in the West Midlands.
“The mood is very good; we are happy with our start but we are hungry for more wins,” the 46-year-old football manager shared.
