Silverware on Bruno Guimaraes’ Mind After Arsenal Transfer

Bruno Guimaraes recently shared his ambition to win major silverware and establish a lasting legacy with Arsenal.

On 8 August, the 28-year-old midfielder left Newcastle United after nearly five years to join the Gunners on a four-year contract valued at £75 million.

Guimaraes captained the team that beat Liverpool 2-1 in the 2025 EFL Cup final, lifting their first major title in seven decades. However, the Brazilian international felt the time was right for a fresh challenge after discussions with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta convinced him of the club’s ambitious vision.

“It feels amazing to join Arsenal,” Guimaraes said while on international duty. “I knew inside that I needed a new challenge, and Arsenal felt like the right place… I want to win a championship there, I want to play, I want to make my mark with this new shirt.”

While acknowledging long-term dreams of eventually concluding his career in South America with former clubs Vasco da Gama or Athletico Paranaense, Guimaraes emphasised that his focus remains entirely on his new home.
