Adele Accepts Leadership Award, Talks About Albums

Adele had plenty to say while receiving an award at The Hollywood Reporter’s 2023 Women in Entertainment Gala on Thursday, 7 December.

The 35-year-old songstress accepted the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award at the awards ceremony hosted at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

British actress Dame Helen Mirren, who famously starred in “The Queen”, presented the accolade to Adele, who humorously said, “Thank you, queenie”, and curtsied before delivering her handwritten speech.

While mentioning her thanks and appreciation, she humbly admitted, “This all feels very big and grown up”, before sharing that she’s “only released four albums” during her 17 years in the music business.

Adele’s first album, “19”, came out in 2008; her following albums – “21”, “25”, and “30” – were released in 2011, 2015 and 2021, respectively.

She mentioned the “real reason” for the number of works she’s put out is due to her falling pregnant when her second album reached peak popularity – something critics would have considered “career suicide.”

“It was there and then that I chose to reject the scarcity of success and the idea that you have to be constantly relevant to be successful,” she mused, before wryly saying, “And you’ll never guess what. I got away with it!”
