Aguero Misses FA Cup Clash After Forced Self-isolation
Manchester City’s striker, Sergio Aguero, was set make his first start since October on Sunday, 10 January against Birmingham City, but was omitted from the squad and forced to self-isolate, after being in contact with a positive COVID-19 case.
The club’s record goalscorer had a very disrupted season and only played nine games in all competitions due to injuries, and has now suffered another setback.
According to Pep Guardiola, someone close to the striker tested positive for COVID-19 – and therefore Aguero was forced to quarantine despite testing negative – in order to adhere to the government’s protocols for close contact.
Guardiola said: “He [Aguero] was in contact with one person who was positive. It is a pity. It was a perfect day to get minutes but unfortunately, he has to be a few days out.”
The 32-year-old Argentine forward is now in doubt for City’s two upcoming fixtures against Brighton and Crystal Palace.
