Aston Villa vs Tottenham Postponed Due to Coronavirus
The Premier League board have decided to postpone the match between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur scheduled for Wednesday, 13 January, due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the Bodymoor Heath training complex.
Villa were forced to play their previous game, against Liverpool in the FA Cup, last week Friday, 8 January, using their second team players following a significant outbreak which saw 10 first-team players forced to self-isolate.
The statement released by the top-flight reads: “Following Aston Villa’s request to rearrange the fixture, and due to the number of players and staff who have either tested positive for COVID-19 or have been placed in isolation by the club, the Premier League had no other option than to reschedule the match.”
To accommodate the Spurs’ hectic fixtures, Jose Mourinho’s squad will now play their home match against Fulham in Villa’s place, on Wednesday, 13 January.
This match rescheduling has thrown a number of other EPL fixtures into chaos – with Fulham’s clash against Chelsea moved from Friday, 15 January to Saturday, 16 January.
Everton’s game against Villa has also been rescheduled from Saturday, 16 January to Sunday, 17 January.
