Arsenal Scrape By with 1-0 Win Over Everton
Arsenal reached deep within themselves to claim a last minute victory over Everton last night, Sunday 18 September.
Goodison Park Stadium in Liverpool, England was packed with fans ready to see their favourites test their strength against one another. Hosts Everton have been historically confident on their hometurf, putting the Gunners on the back foot from the get-go.
Mikel Arteta, manager of Arsenal, raised eyebrows when he decided to replace trusted goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale with newcomer David Raya. However, Arteta has been foreshadowing the move for sometime, having previously mentioned that everyone will need to work for their position in the club.
Gunners striker, Leandro Trossard, most assuredly caught Arteta’s eye when he managed to claim the solitary winning goal at the 69-minute mark, assisted by his teammate Bukayo Saka.
“Arsenal weren’t brilliant but they were efficient. They were calculated, took their time with the corner with the goal, spoke about what to do, and they did it,” pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink told an international publication as he reviewed the match.
Trossard – who was named player of the match – saw things a little differently, as he enthusiastically told the same publication: “I think it’s a great action [sic]!” in the post-match press conference.
