Aston Villa Bag Donyell Malen for £27.7m

Aston Villa have bolstered their attacking firepower with the signing of Dutch international Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth up to £27.7 million, including performance-related add-ons.

Villa paid an initial £21 million for the 25-year-old forward, as part of the club’s push for UEFA Champions League qualification.

Malen has an impressive track record, scoring 39 goals in 131 appearances during his three-and-a-half years at Dortmund. He also featured prominently in the Netherlands team that reached the Euro 2024 semi-finals.

This season, the former PSV Eindhoven and Arsenal academy player netted five times in 20 matches for Dortmund, including a goal in their recent 3-1 Bundesliga win over Wolfsburg.

Villans manager Unai Emery had been eyeing Malen for some time, with the forward expected to bring versatility and clinical finishing to the squad. Villa are currently eighth in the English Premier League with 32 points, and are well-placed to progress in the Champions League.
