Authorities Confirm the Death of Julian Sands
British actor Julian Sands has been confirmed dead by California police on Tuesday, 27 June, more than five months after he initially went missing.
The remains of the 65-year-old film star were found in the Mount Baldy area of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles, California on Saturday, 24 June.
A statement released by the local sheriff’s department via their official website on Tuesday, 27 June, confirmed that the remains had been positively identified by the coroner.
“The manner of death is still under investigation, pending further test results,” The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said, before adding: “We would like to extend our gratitude to all the volunteers that worked tirelessly to try to locate Mr Sands.”
Sands – who was known for his roles in the Oscar-winning film, “A Room With A View” and television dramas “24” and “Smallville” – was an avid hiker who was reported missing to the local authorities on 13 January after he failed to return home during particularly bad weather.
At the time, the search for the actor was hampered by deadly storms, icy conditions and a threat of avalanches.
Sands is survived by his wife, Eugenia Citkowitz, their daughters Imogen Morley and Natalya Morley, as well as a son, Henry, from a previous marriage.
