Barcelona Agree to Sell Coutinho to Aston Villa
After four years playing on Spanish soil, it seems like Philippe Coutinho is heading back to Britain.
According to reports, Barcelona have agreed to sell Coutinho to Aston Villa on a transfer deal approximately worth €20 million.
The 29-year-old Brazilian attacking midfielder – who, in 2018, joined Barca from Liverpool for an initial £105 million – was loaned out to Aston Villa in January this year, and his stint apparently impressed the English outfit’s higher-ups.
The six-month loan deal apparently included an option to buy for €40 million. However, the Villans have deemed the price too high, hence the €20-million fee.
Suffice to say, Barca – who have been struggling financially in recent years – are willing to accept the aforementioned fee so that they can bring in new players on smaller, more stable salaries.
Of course, Aston Villa themselves would still have to negotiate with the attacking midfielder regarding his wage demands before the transfer deal is finalised.
Presumably, once this is done, the club will announce Coutinho’s signing in the near future.
