Britney Spears Arrested for Alleged DUI in California
The music icon Britney Spears was detained on Wednesday night, 4 March, following reports of dangerous driving on a highway in Los Angeles, California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the singer was driving her BMW erratically at high speeds when she was intercepted by officers.
Police noted “signs of impairment” and conducted field sobriety tests before taking Spears to a medical facility for blood analysis. She was booked into custody and released the following morning, with a court date now scheduled for 4 May.
Responding to the incident, a representative for Spears told an international publication: “This was an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.”
The spokesperson added that her family is currently developing a support plan, stating, “hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life.”
This legal setback follows the 2021 termination of a 13-year conservatorship and the 2023 release of her memoir. While the star recently suggested she might perform in the United Kingdom or Australia, she deactivated her Instagram account shortly after news of the arrest broke.
Chemical test results remain pending as the investigation continues.
