Britney Spears Lashes Out at Substance Abuse Claims

Pop singer, Britney Spears, appears to be enjoying her freedom after her 13-year conservatorship ended, but her family are worried that she might be harming herself via substance abuse – a claim she has struck out at.

The 41-year-old “Toxic” hitmaker has been in full control of her finances and personal life since November 2021, and shares her joy across social media in posts that are often seen as unusual, which some fans think are a sign that all is not well.

A British tabloid published an interview with Spears’ ex-husband, Kevin Federline, on Sunday, 11 June, detailing his concerns about the singer’s alleged use of drugs, and how he expects “devastating news” every time the phone rings.

Shortly after the publication was released, Spears took to Instagram to slam the reports.

“The fact that people are claiming things that are not true is so sad,” she states in the post. “I’ve always felt like the news bullies me.”

Spears’ lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, has called the article “false and defamatory”, and issued a legal letter to the tabloid’s editors to have it pulled.

The news comes as the pop idol celebrates her one-year anniversary with her husband, Sam Asghari.
