CAF Champions League: Sundowns Draw 0-0 to Pyramids
Reigning Premier Soccer League champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, registered a frustrating 0-0 draw to Pyramids FC in their CAF Champions League Group A match on Sunday, 10 December.
Playing on home ground at Loftus Versfeld in Gauteng, Pretoria, Sundowns maintained a strong possession (69%) of the ball throughout the game, although their Egyptian visitors held them at bay with a strong defence strategy from the get-go.
Come the second half, the Brazilians upped the ante with a near-dominant display that virtually matched the aggression of Pyramids, who remained firm despite defender Osama Galal copping himself a red card in the 89th minute due to an accumulation of yellow cards.
Ultimately, the final score was 0-0, although both teams walked away with one point apiece.
Despite this dismal score, both Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC – along with TP Mazembe and FC Nouadhibou – are tied for four points in Group A.
Sundowns have an opportunity to redeem themselves next Tuesday, 19 December, when they take on Pyramids again, this time at the 30 June Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
