Cardoso Gives Injury Update on Ronwen Williams

Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams will not be part of the Mamelodi Sundowns squad set to face Kaizer Chiefs in their Betway Premiership match tomorrow, Saturday 1 March.

Due to a minor injury reportedly affecting his lower back, Williams has been absent from four of Sundowns’ matches, including their 4-2 win against Sekhukhune United on Wednesday, 26 February.

Following their victory, coach Miguel Cardoso gave a none-too-promising update about the 33-year-old goalie in a post-match interview.

“Regarding Ronwen, we don’t know when he will come back,” he said. “We hope very quickly, but at the moment, I am waiting for something from the medical department … we hope that he comes [back] as quickly as possible.”

Fortunately, explained the Portuguese manager, they are not short of goalkeeping options: “We have Jody [February], we have Sanele [Tshabalala], we have Reyaad Pieterse. So, for sure, someone will stand up if we need some goalkeepers.”

Here’s hoping Mamelodi Sundowns can make do without Williams when they face off against Kaizer Chiefs tomorrow at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, Gauteng!
