Celeb Twitter Round-Up: 5 Times Fans Clapped Back at Celebs

If Mzansi Twitter was a season, then it would definitely NOT be winter because it has zero chill when it comes to their favourite (and least favourite) celebrities.

Tweeps often get heated when the likes of Kabza De Small, Pearl Thusi and Rasta the Artist top the trending lists, so much so they won’t hesitate to roast the ever-living mickey out of them – to hilarious results!

That’s why we’re taking a look at the top five times fans clapped back at celebrities in 2023:

5. Trevor Noah? Rasta Doesn’t Know Him

Lebani “Rasta” Sirenje is a one-of-a-kind artist, meaning that he’s probably the only person capable of creating celebrity portraits which look absolutely NOTHING like the subjects he’s painting. Just ask Connie Ferguson, Buti Manamela, Zozibini Tunzi, Lionel Messi, etc.

In August, comedian Trevor Noah also became the latest victim – er, subject added to Rasta’s gallery of botched arts:

Yup. Clearly, Rasta doesn’t know who the heck Trevor Noah is if he painted him like THAT.

Over on Twitter/X, tweeps were a little more vocal (and LOLing) with their comments on the portrait’s non-resemblance to Noah, and for its resemblance to actor Alfred Ntombela or Aki from the Nigerian film franchise, “Aki and Pawpaw”:

Ultimately, it got Twitter/X begging in the coldest way possible:

4. Valentine’s Day Wifey Massacre

Not even on Valentine’s Day can love contend with the power of pettiness.

Just ask King Monada, who spent the whole of 14 February spoiling the loves (yes, that’s PLURAL) of his life, Lerato Ramawela and Cynthia Nthebatse Leon, to whom he presented two goats as gag gifts before showering them with flowers, balloons and other lovely presents:

Tweeps, on the other hand, showered the “Malwedhe” hitmaker’s wives with petty bombs, mainly by bashing Ramawela (on the right) for her looks and and Leon (on the left) for the same thing, albeit in a meaner way:

3. It’s the Circle of Divorce

On 1 August, Lebo M. revealed that he was heading for the divorce courts for the fifth time – this time, the 59-year-old was cutting ties with businesswoman Pretty Samuels-Morake, who had been married to him for only one year.

Once the news of “The Lion King” composer’s umpteenth divorce broke out, the Twitter/X timelines were filled to the brim with laughing emojis and GIFs:

In a rare gesture of kindness (or trolling, depending on your POV), they even spared a thought for South Africa’s hapless Home Affairs department:

Heck, they even went as far as to express their “condolences” for his best man/men and uncles:

2. The “P” in ZANU-PF Stands for “Pearl”

SA’s government may be bad, but Zimbabwe’s government – which is run by the notorious Zimbabwe African National Union – Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party – is probably in the same WhatsApp group.

As such, actress Pearl Thusi caught flak from both Mzansi AND Zim tweeps for lending her support to the latter’s government during a “True Zimbabwe” tour alongside other celebs and important figures back in August:

They even spat some hard truths, saying that any money that Thusi and company (allegedly) received by the ZANU-PF could have been used to hire actual Zimbabwean celebrities. Better yet, to be put towards improving the country’s services and welfare:

1. Make-Up Can’t Hide Kabza De Small’s Online Burns

In early October, Kabze De Small woke up and chose violence by bashing women’s make-up skills in a series of videos:

“When this make-up thing started, [professional make-up artists] were doing it for you. But you guys ruined it by doing it yourselves. You look like a corpse,” he says in the one video.

In the second video, the “Asibe Happy” hitmaker goes on to say that blush looks better on light-skinned women than on women with darker complexions: “[The blush] wants yellow bones [light-skinned women], not dark-skinned. Nah, it doesn’t work, hey. Pink on black? No.”

In response, tweeps absolutely bashed him (and his lack of a liver, supposedly) back:

Ultimately, the award for funniest tweet of the year goes to @TheTitanBaddie, who absolutely flamed De Small like a Thanksgiving turkey whose own wishbone couldn’t save it from this nuclear roast:
