Celeb Twitter Round-Up: Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni Wants People to “Leave My Womb Alone”

Oh dear, Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni is NOT happy with what the rumour mills are churning out.

On Monday, 11 March, the “Jacaranda FM” presenter uploaded a video clip to her Instagram account. In it, she slammed the rampant gossip that she was pregnant, as well as the people who spread them.

“Leave my womb alone. Leave other women’s wombs alone,” the 33-year-old is heard saying. “Whether I am or not – and just to be clear, I am not – I just feel like you guys want to be seen. This culture … of wanting to be seen, to out people and be first, you guys need to stop it.

“When women are ready to tell you whether or not they want to procreate, or whether or not they are pregnant, or whether or not they will be expecting, they will do so within their own time.”

Attributing her weight gain to ageing, and “because I’m happy and I have money”, Laurie-Mthombeni threatened to block trolls who throw around such claims not only on her socials, but on her husband’s (Dr Musa Mthombeni’s) socials as well.

“I am really, really tired of [pregnancy claims] happening on my post and on other women’s posts … Calling out someone for being pregnant is not something nice to say … I am absolutely done on this topic.”

Well, Miss South Africa 2015 has spoken! And as you can see, fans on Instagram were much nicer and agreeable about what she had to say:

The peeps on Twitter/X, though? Not so much.

Some peeps reckoned she should have remained quiet:

While there maaaaay be slivers of legitimate concern coming from these tweeps (in that they fear Laurie-Mthombeni will only provoke toxicity for speaking up), the fact that they’re telling her to stay silent when she was already drawing attention from trolls BEFORE her video went up is kinda wild.

A few tweeps (sort of) pointed this out, albeit to mixed results:

Other reckoned that, as a public figure, Laurie-Mthombeni is not immune to online scrutiny, that she has a choice to stay away from social media, and that it’s all on her if she shares her life with the rest of us:

These takes left some tweeps disappointed over humankind’s treatment of women:

And for anyone who felt like Laurie-Mthombeni was coming for them personally (even if THEY were the ones who were coming at her first), @Davidzaga_ summed it up perfectly in this tweet:

Public figures or not, it’s not up to people to judge women’s bodies or tell them how to react to certain situations, especially if those situations are harming them physically and emotionally. If Liesl Laurie-Mthombeni wants to speak up and give toxic trolls a taste of their own venom, then let her do it so you ALL can move the heck on.

Besides, y’all really need to channel this energy into commenting/complaining about other important things. Loadshedding, anyone?
