Chelsea Boss Says Sam Kerr’s Apology Is Enough

Chelsea manager, Sonia Bompastor, has confirmed that striker Sam Kerr will not face disciplinary action from the club following her recent court case.
The 31-year-old Australian international was found not guilty of racially aggravated harassment after calling a police officer “stupid and white” during a dispute in early 2023.
Following the verdict on Tuesday, 11 February, Kerr issued an apology, acknowledging that she had expressed herself poorly. Bompastor stated that this was sufficient and that the Blues would stand by their player.
“Sam made a statement. She apologised, and I think that is enough,” the 44-year-old French manager said before adding: “What she was facing last week was hard enough for her so the only thing we want to do as a club is support her.”
Despite the legal outcome, Football Australia has faced calls to reconsider Kerr’s role as Matildas captain, though no decision has been announced as of yet.
Kerr, who has been sidelined for over a year with a knee injury, has returned to training, but she is not yet fully fit. While she will miss the upcoming SheBelieves Cup, Australia’s friendlies could see her back in action playing against South Korea in April.
