Liverpool Survive Late Wolves Fightback

Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the English Premier League with a nervy 2-1 victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England.

Despite a strong start, the Reds struggled in the second half, failing to register a single shot on target, but held on for three crucial points last night, Sunday 16 February.

Luis Diaz opened the scoring at the 15 minute-mark, before Mohamed Salah converted a penalty twelve minutes later. However, the Wolves were left agitated by the decision, believing a foul on Emmanuel Agbadou had been overlooked in the build-up. Matheus Cunha’s late goal set up a tense finish, but Liverpool’s resilience saw them through.

One of the game’s biggest talking points was Ibrahima Konate escaping a second yellow card. The defender was booked for pulling back Cunha but later committed another foul on the same player without further punishment.

This marks the third consecutive league game in which a Liverpool player avoided a second yellow before being subbed off.

With tough matches against Aston Villa and Manchester City ahead, Slot will hope his team finds better control of the ball to maintain their title charge.
