Chelsea Claim Moises Caicedo on British Record Transfer Deal
Chelsea have stunned English Premier League pundits by swooping in and agreeing to a British record transfer fee of £115 million for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder, Moises Caicedo.
The 21-year-old Ecuadorian footballer is expected to undergo his medical examination at Stamford Bridge stadium in London, England today, Monday 14 August.
If the deal goes through, Chelsea will pay an initial £100 million, plus £15 million in performance-related add-ons for an eight-year contract, with the option for an additional year.
The deal is particularly surprising as Liverpool were believed to have reached an agreement worth £111 million with Brighton to sign Caicedo on Thursday evening, 10 August. The move is believed to have fallen through when Caicedo informed the Reds that he would prefer to sign with the Blues.
Chelsea have been spending freely in an effort to boost their ranks this year, as the club also broke the British record in January by purchasing Argentina midfielder, Enzo Fernandez, for £107 million.
It’s been a busy transfer season for Chelsea, who have signed eight other stars including Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Lesley Ugochukwu, Angelo Gabriel, Robert Sanchez and Diego Moreira to their ranks. The club has reportedly spent £178 million euros this season – not including Caicedo’s upcoming transfer fees – as they continue a major overhaul of the team.
