Chelsea Under Fire After League Cup Loss
Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino is feeling the world on his shoulders as he faces criticism from all quarters after his side’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool for the Carabao Cup silverware last Sunday, 25 February.
The west London team have endured bad luck for the past two seasons, despite spending well over £1 billion on new players since an ownership group, headed by Todd Boehly, took over in 2022.
The new deep pockets were generally accepted to mean that Chelsea would be able to fill the squad with quality players, but that hasn’t translated into wins or silverware in recent times.
Now, the League Cup loss at Wembley Stadium in Wembley, England has restoked the flames under the 51-year-old football boss and how he runs the Blues. The latest jab came from former Manchester United player, Gary Neville, who called them “blue billion-pound bottle jobs.”
Pochettino didn’t take the harsh words lying down and told reporters on Tuesday, 27 February, that the comment was “unfair”.
“The new owners arrived with the right intention and they want to build something that is different from the past. For me, the players have an amazing quality, they only need time … I think we are doing an amazing job,” he explained.
