Chiefs Held to 2-2 Draw by Richards Bay

Kaizer Chiefs were held to a 2-2 draw by Richards Bay in a rain-soaked Betway Premiership clash on Wednesday night, 26 August.

Playing at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, Richards Bay took the lead in the eighth minute through Nqaba Xulu, who capitalised on a defensive error.

Chiefs levelled the score 11 minutes later via a penalty from Lebohang Maboe after a handball. However, Xulu struck again just before half-time, heading a goal from a corner to restore the Natal Rich Boys’ advantage.

In the second half, Chiefs substitute Asanele Velebayi set up Siphesihle Ndlovu, who fired home the equaliser in the 77th minute.

Despite Amakhosi dominating both ball possession (a whopping 72%) and shots, neither side could find a winner.

As a result of this 2-2 tie, Kaizer Chiefs have dropped to third place in the Premier Soccer League rankings with eight points; Richards Bay also slipped down the table, as they now occupy 12th place with three points.
