Dolly Parton, 80, Passes Away

The world is in mourning following the death of legendary country musician, Dolly Parton, at the age of 80.

In a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday, 25 August, Bryan Seaver, Parton’s nephew and head of security, announced the news of her death, which occurred that same day.

A subsequent statement from the “Jolene” hitmaker’s representatives confirmed that she passed away following a “brief battle” with an undisclosed form of cancer. She died “surrounded by loved ones” at the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Our beloved Dolly Parton spent her life and career bringing joy, laughter, hope and integrity into everything she touched,” the statement reads.

“Her unmatched generosity reached the lives of countless people whom she would never meet, yet she was always there to offer a helping hand.”

Born into an impoverished family in Pittman Center, Tennessee, in 1946, Parton overcame her wretched circumstances to become one of the world’s most popular country music stars. She was also beloved for her philanthropy, which extended to the Imagination Library, her book donation programme.

Parton’s death comes more than a year after her husband of nearly six decades, Carl Dean, passed away. She is survived by her six siblings and their extended families.
