DaBaby Apologises to LGBTQIA+ Community

DaBaby is trying to make things right after he embarked on a homophobic rant at a music festival last Sunday, 25 July.

During his performance at the Rolling Loud Miami festival in Florida, the “Suge” rapper addressed the crowd, making insensitive comments about the LGBTQIA+ community and spreading misinformation about HIV/AIDS.

In response, fans and other celebrities – including singers Elton John and Madonna – heavily criticised DaBaby, whose first attempt at an apology two days later fell flat. In addition, he was dropped from the line-ups of other music festivals such as Lollapalooza and New York’s Governors Ball.

On Monday, 1 August, the 29-year-old rapper released a statement on Instagram. In it, he apologises again to the LGBTQIA+ community for his “hurtful and triggering comments”, as well as for his “misinformed comments about HIV/AIDS.”

He also wrote: “I appreciate the many people who came to me with kindness, who reached out to me privately to offer wisdom, education, and resources. That’s what I needed and it was received. … Love to all. God bless.”
