Ellen DeGeneres to End Talk Show in 2022
After 18 years on air, “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” is coming to an end.
In an interview with a US media outlet on Thursday, 12 May, the 63-year-old hostess revealed that her eponymous talk show will be wrapping up after the 19th season airs in 2022.
She explained the reason behind the decision, which was apparently several years in the making: “When you’re a creative person, you constantly need to be challenged – and as great as this show is, and as fun as it is, it’s just not a challenge anymore.”
DeGeneres added: “My instinct told me it’s time. As a comedian, I’ve always understood the importance of timing. In all seriousness, I truly have felt like next season was the right time to end this amazing chapter.”
DeGeneres said she had informed the show’s staff about its ending the day before, and that she will be speaking to Oprah Winfrey in an episode today, Thursday 13 May, to discuss the news in depth.
The news comes a year after she was accused of turning a blind eye to racism, bullying and sexual harassment that her employees experienced while working on the show.
