Euro 2020: Belgium Beat Finland 2-0
Belgium have advanced to the knockout phase of the UEFA Euro 2020 Championship after securing a 2-0 win over Finland on Monday evening, 21 June.
With over 18 000 fans in attendance at Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia, both teams were admittedly taking it at a slow pace on the pitch. It was just before half-time when the action picked up: Finland keeper, Lukas Hradecky, denied a goal from Jeremy Doku with a one-handed save.
Come the second half, however, Hradecky’s luck turned against him – at the 74th minute, he was unable to prevent a Thomas Vermaelen header from crossing the line, which hit the bar and rebounded off him for an own goal.
Seven minutes later, Romelu Lukaku struck the ball home with a right-footed shot, allowing Belgium to pick up the victory.
Now standing at the top of Group B with nine points, Belgium are set to play one of the third-placed teams in Seville, Spain on 27 June.
