Ex-Yanga Coach Joins Orlando Pirates
Helmy Gueldich has joined Orlando Pirates as their new conditioning coach.
The Bucs made the news official via a statement published on their website on Thursday, 10 August.
“Gueldich brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise having recently worked as the Strength and Conditioning coach for Tanzanian League champions, Yanga FC,” the statement reads.
“Notably, Gueldich is not only a seasoned professional but also a former player, holding a Ph.D. in Exercise Science. His wealth of knowledge and background will be a valuable asset to the team.”
The Tunisian’s signing comes two months after the previous conditioning coach, Stephen Plummer, left the club following an eight-year stint in order to join local rugby outfit, the Blue Bulls, as their senior conditioning coach.
The signing also came after it was recently reported that he had been targeted by Kaizer Chiefs, but talks between the two parties apparently fell through.
He will be working alongside head coach Jose Riveiro and fitness coach Michel Bellver to keep the Buccaneers in top playing form while they partake in ”five challenging competitions this season”, including the Premier Soccer League and the CAF Champions League.
