Fan Frenzy as Kaizer Chiefs Defeat Stellenbosch FC

Chaos, passion and excitement abounded on Sunday, 28 August, after Kaizer Chiefs beat Stellenbosch FC on penalties in their MTN8 clash.

In front of a sold-out crowd at Danie Craven Stadium in Stellenbosch, Amakhosi and their hosts fought a tight battle. At first, the fans were somewhat restrained when Stellies’ Sihle Nduli scored in the 48th minute.

However, the action got interrupted midway through the second half when jubilant Chiefs fans descended onto the pitch after Ashley Du Preez scored an equaliser at the 58th minute, prompting veteran goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune to urge them back to the stands.

The game eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. Suffice to say, Chiefs fans were on edge as the game went into penalties.

But when Amakhosi won the penalty shoot-out 4-3 after Khune made two saves from Stellies, they once again stormed the pitch in their vast numbers to celebrate.

Kaizer Chiefs now progress to the MTN8 semi-finals alongside reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns.
