Gyokeres Transfer Takes Dramatic Turn

Sporting CP president Frederico Varandas has issued a blistering response amid mounting tension over Viktor Gyokeres’ potential summer transfer.
The 27-year-old striker is reportedly furious – and threatening to go on strike – as the Portuguese club allegedly backtracked on a gentleman’s agreement allowing him to leave for €70 million.
Varandas issued a statement earlier this week insisting that no formal offers have been received. He denied ever setting a fixed price, saying: “Viktor Gyokeres will not leave for €60m plus €10m. Sporting has not had a single offer for him, neither today nor last summer.”
He went on to accuse the player’s agent of manipulation and blackmail, while reaffirming that the Swedish forward – who scored 54 goals last season and starred in the UEFA Champions League – is under contract until 2028.
Clubs including Manchester United and Arsenal are circling to sign Gyokeres, but Sporting remain firm on a valuation much higher than the aforementioned agreed amount. Varandas confirmed he promised flexibility based on performance, not a set figure.
The dispute threatens to overshadow what should have been a lucrative and straightforward transfer for one of Europe’s hottest talents. With reported interest from English Premier League giants and Saudi clubs alike, the pressure is on Gyokeres, his agent and Sporting to resolve the impasse.
