Have Mamelodi Sundowns Signed Ronwen Williams?

Mamelodi Sundowns have reportedly completed the signing of Bafana Bafana and SuperSport United captain/goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams.

For the past few weeks, rumours spread that Williams was a shoe-in signing for the Sundowns, who were looking to add to their shot-stopping options.

Now, according to reports from Thursday, 30 June, it appears that the 30-year-old is leaving SuperSport – for whom he has been playing since 2010 – for the Brazilians, who are planning to officially unveil him some time this week.

It’s unknown at this time how much the signing will cost or what the length of Williams’ deal is. It should be noted that he is worth an estimated R20 million, although he is said to be part of a swap deal with SuperSport goalie, Ricardo Goss.

Former Mamelodi Sundowns striker, Sandile Ndlovu, shared his thoughts on the purported move: “He is a good goalkeeper and a very good player who wants to play for a winning team and win trophies. Football is a short career and you have to show medals, so if Sundowns can do that, why not?”
