Injury-Ladened Liverpool Crush Luton
The audience at Anfield in Liverpool, England enjoyed a spectacular show of grit from Liverpool as they recovered from a dreary first half to soundly thrash Luton Town 4-1.
The Hatters met an underpowered Reds side on Wednesday, 21 February, and the visitors brought fire as forward Chiedozie Ogbene put them in the lead at the 12th-minute mark.
Liverpool felt the weight of multiple player absences, including Mohamed Salah, Alisson Becker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara as they all nursed a variety of recent injuries.
However, the second half of the game saw the home team fight back with renewed vigour, starting with an equaliser by Virgil van Dijk with 56 minutes elapsed on the clock. Not two minutes later, his teammate Coody Gakpo contributed with a goal of his own.
The demolition of Luton continued with Luis Diaz knocking a screecher into the back of the opposition’s net at the 71st minute; Reds midfielder Harvey Elliott nailed the final goal of the game as the clock struck 90 minutes to make the final tally 4-1.
A lively Jurgen Klopp was beside himself with joy over the final result, saying that Liverpool’s win was a “big one!”; which kept his side at the top of the English Premier League table with 60 points, four points ahead of Man City in second place.
