Into The Sky: From Car to Plane in 3 Minutes
The future is here: flying cars are finally becoming a reality, thanks to a start-up project that is offering a prototype that can transform from an automobile into an aeroplane in just a few minutes.
Slovakian company, KleinVision, developed and produced the AirCar, a dual-mode vehicle which can reach heights of approximately 24 00 metres and reach speeds of more than 160 kilometres per hour.
The AirCar was recently declared airworthy by the European Aviation Safety Agency after completing over 200 take-offs and landings, all the while clocking up 70 hours of flight-time.
Project co-founders, Professor Stefan Klein and Anton Zajac, are proud of the progress on their invention; it passed its proof-of-concept test last year by flying from Nitra to Bratislava within 35 minutes.
Professor Klein, also the AirCar’s investor and test pilot, said: “AirCar certification opens the door for mass production of very efficient flying cars. It is official and the final confirmation of our ability to change mid-distance travel forever.”
“Fifty years ago, the car was the epitome of freedom,” said an ecstatic Zajac. “AirCar allows us to be free again.”
No price-tag has been revealed, but one can imagine it will be sky-high. The production of commercial models can be expected by 2023 at the latest.
