João Cancelo Blasts Man City in New Interview

João Cancelo is eager to have his side of the story told after rumours began swirling about his exit from Manchester City.

The 29-year-old Portugal full-back is currently on a season-long loan at Barcelona from Man City. Cancelo was a key player in manager Pep Guardiola’s squad before he unexpectedly departed the Citizens for Bayern Munich in January 2023.

Some suggested that the athlete had left the English club after he slid down the pecking order, finding himself below his teammates, Rico Lewis and Nathan Aké.However, Cancelo has finally decided to speak out on the matter.

“Lies were told,” he said to a Portuguese publication on Sunday, 24 March, before he added: “I was never a bad companion for them and you can ask either Aké or Rico. I don’t have any superiority or inferiority complex towards them.”

Clearly frustrated with the matter, Cancelo went on to say: “I think Manchester City were a bit ungrateful to me when they said that, because I was a very important player in the years I was there. I never failed in my commitment to the club, to the fans. I always gave everything.”
