Kaizer Chiefs’ Lack Spirit in 0-0 Draw
Kaizer Chiefs’ 2023/2024 Premier Soccer League (PSL) campaign has gotten off to a lacklustre start following a goalless draw with Chippa United on Sunday, 6 August.
Upon their arrival at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, it was expected that the Soweto giants – now under the coachmanship of Molefi Ntseki – would easily prevail over Chippa, who ended their last PSL campaign in 14th place.
Indeed, with the debuts of Ranga Chivaviro, Edson Castillo, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and Given Msimang, Chiefs fans were hoping that the club would put on a strong display, especially in terms of their defence and attack strategies.
Despite Amakhosi’s fans high hopes, possession of the ball was evenly matched, although the Chiefs tried their best to increase theirs above 53%. Three yellow cards were also distributed to Chippa’s Thabiso Lebitso, Azola Ntsabo and Justice Chabalala over the course of the game, but these did little to hinder the home team’s efforts.
Ultimately, both teams struggled to successfully land their shots, although Ntseki is probably feeling the most heat from fans for not doing anything different to improve Amakhosi’s lot thus far.
As a result of the match, Kaizer Chiefs occupy tenth place on the PSL rankings with one point; as for Chippa United, they’re sitting in ninth place with the same score.
