Koeman Sacked after Barcelona Loss
Ronald Koeman is searching for a new job after he was promptly sacked following FC Barcelona’s surprising 1-0 loss to Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night, 27 October.
On the flight home from Madrid, Spain, the 58-year-old Dutch manager was informed by Barca club president, Joan Laporta, that he was relieved of his coaching duties. It came straight after the Catalan giants lost the game and slipped to ninth place on the La Liga table.
The last time Vallecano won against Barca was in 2005, which prompted Laporta and the rest of management to immediately pick an interim replacement: Camp Nou B-team coach, Sergi Barjuan.
News of the firing was made official on the same day via the Spanish side’s website, whereby they thanked Koeman for “his service to the Club [sic] and wishes him all the best in his professional career.”
According to analysts, the lead contender in the race for new Barca boss is Xavi Hernandez, coach of the Qatar Stars League team, Al Sadd, as well as renowned former midfielder who previously played for Barcelona in the ‘90s.
