Liverpool Eye Another Win as Southampton Face Tough Test

English Premier League (EPL) leaders Liverpool host Southampton at Anfield Stadium in Liverpool, England, on Saturday, 8 March, in what looks like a mismatch on paper.
The Reds, fresh from a hard-fought 1-0 UEFA Champions League win over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), are aiming to maintain their 13-point lead at the top of the EPL table.
Meanwhile, Southampton sit rock-bottom, 13 points from safety, and edging closer to relegation.
Liverpool manager, Arne Slot, has described this fixture as the first of three crucial games in nine days – the others being next week’s PSG second leg and the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.
“My full focus is now on Southampton,” he firmly declared during a pre-match interview on Friday, 7 March. “For me, the Southampton game is by far the most important of the week.”
The Reds are unbeaten in 24 league matches and have scored at least twice in their last 18 home games, making Anfield a fortress. Southampton, on the other hand, have suffered six straight league defeats at Anfield and will need an inspired performance to cause an upset.
