Liverpool Loss Forces Defensive Rethink

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp, was left to ponder his squad’s defensive line choices after they lost 2-0 to Atalanta at Anfield on Wednesday night, 25 November.

The 53-year-old German manager is juggling a busy football competition schedule, an injury-ladened team, and a stunted middle-row – a far cry from the well-oiled machine that won the English Premier League (EPL) title last season.

Now, Atalanta took the Reds to task, with two rapid-succession goals from Josip Ilicic and Robin Gosens in the 60th and 64th minute, respectively.

Despite the stats showing the home side being in charge of the UEFA Champions League match, the Italian visitors clearly showed more spirit with a greater number of opportunities at scoring.

At a press conference following the game, a disappointed Klopp said: “We had better football moments, but not good enough. If you don’t have a shot on target, that’s never a good sign.”

Liverpool next face Brighton for a chance to move up the EPL table – they are currently second behind Tottenham Spurs – tomorrow, Saturday, 28 November, at Falmer Stadium.
